In 2016 my husband gave me the gift of a modern calligraphy set from Quill London and I immediately began practising this addictive art form, learning to use a pointed pen dipped in ink and also a fine paint brush to create my personal style of modern calligraphy, brush lettering and vintage cursive script.

Studying history at university and then working for the registration service in London fed my interest in historic handwritten documents and I could happily while away an hour or two looking at vintage paper ephemera and swooning over the faded handwriting. The Inklings’ discussions and personal conclusions often led to published works, which means their influence continues in contemporary literature and letters. I’ve always been interested in the handwritten, changing and developing my own style many times since I was given my first fountain pen as a teenager.
